Soul Surfer (2011)

"A teenage surfer girl summons the courage to go back into the ocean after losing an arm in a shark attack."

Director:

Sean McNamara

Writers:

Sean McNamara, Deborah Schwartz

Stars:

AnnaSophia Robb, Dennis Quaid and Helen Hunt

I was completely blown away by the movie.. no words can describe how emotional this is. The story of this young woman brought to cinemas.. it really pulls on your heart strings. It brought quite a few tears to my eyes. When they cast Robb as the role of Bethany Hamilton they couldn't have picked a better actress. She brought the story to life and I don't think anyone else could have done a better job. The chilling tale of a young surfer losing her arm to a shark attack.. it's gut wrenching but something you can't just turn off. One of those movies you have to watch right until the credits are done rolling. Now I haven't seen Helen Hunt in a movie in years and she was the perfect woman to cast as the role of Hamilton's mother. She fit it so well it was as if the movie was in fact real and not just a re-animation of what had actually happened. All the emotion, the love and encouragement of a real family. It just hit the nail on the head. I would recommend this movie to anyone who wants to watch something that will give you hope and show how strong a family hold is.
On www.IMDb.com this movie was only rated a 6.8, I say whoever voted.. you're fucking nuts. This movie deserves a 10.5. This is a beautiful tale and doesn't deserve a rating any lower than that.

The Vow (2012)

"A car accident puts Paige (McAdams) in a coma, and when she wakes up with severe memory loss, her husband Leo (Tatum) works to win her heart again."

Director:

Michael Sucsy

Writers:

Jason Katims, Abby Kohn

Stars:

Rachel McAdams, Channing Tatum and Sam Neill

Alright straight to the point.. I thought this movie was a waste of my time. It's based on a true story and it's sad, don't get me wrong. It just wasn't my cup of tea. On www.IMDb.com it's rated 6.6, I give it maybe a 4 and I'm feeling generous. McAdams and Tatum were brilliant in it, that's not my problem with the film. It was the plot and the ending just ruined the whole movie. It seemed as if the ending wasn't the ending. There was no "the end.." there was a the but they forgot the end. It felt completely unfinished. The fact that at the end of all the bull they went through they ended the movie with them meeting up randomly and walking away to get food.. to me that was the most boring and uninteresting thing I have ever watched. Maybe add a little kicker at the end, just a quick little flash forward of them getting married again. That's the happily ever after every woman looks for at the end of a romance film. While these two had great connection and their acting was beyond perfect the rest of the movie felt forced and tacky. I wouldn't exactly recommend this film for anyone, maybe if you are extremely bored and you have nothing else to watch but other than that, just no.
Sorry Michael, not the best directing job. And to the writers.. it could have been a lot better, especially the ending.
My opinion? Thumbs down ladies and gents.

World War Z Novel

"An Oral History of the Zombie War (World War Z) is a 2006 post-apocalyptic horror novel by Max Brooks."

Just like most of the population of the world I have this slight obsession with the whole "Zombie Apocalypse" .. okay slight is putting it lightly. I have an over powering obsession with it. Not to the point where I wish it would happen just my paranoia kicks in and I think of what my plans are if it were to ever happen. People think "What if world war 3 happens?!" "What if there's another terrorist attack?!" Me.. "Where am I going to go to find myself a cross bow so I can kill me some zombies?!"
SO! Here's what I'm thinking on the book.. It's fucking brilliant. Yeah that's right.. fucking brilliant. I picked up the book thinking it would be just a simple chapter to chapter, first character referencing, blah, blah, blah. To my surprise it was nothing like I thought. Max Brooks brings the whole story to life. You feel as if you are literally in the story. What do I mean by that? He takes characters that were involved in confrontation with zombies themselves and gives it from their point of view. A man is going around the world meeting with people that had a huge part in the zombie apocalypse. What happened to them, what happened to people around them. Where it generated.. brought to you by the words of the survivors. One on one interviews with the people who survived the biggest fear every man or woman have deep down. This novel keeps me on edge reading every single story presented by each character. It brings into mind that this seems like it could be completely possible and CAN happen. It brings to life what every human being fears. The dreaded zombie apocalypse. For huge fans like me who love zombies.. it's a book that you just can't put down.
I recommend this book to the zombie lovers out there. BUT if you are a scare-dy cat like me.. I suggest you don't read it before bed. Every noise you hear you'll think it's a zombie attempting to enter your front door, walk up your stairs and get you in your sleep.
Kudos Max Brooks, Kudos.. you sure scared the shit out of me.

Green Lantern (2011)

"A test pilot is granted an alien ring that bestows him with otherworldly powers, as well as membership into an intergalactic squadron tasked with keeping peace within the universe."

Director:

Martin Campbell

Writers:

Greg Berlanti, Michael Green

Stars:

Ryan ReynoldsBlake Lively and Peter Sarsgaard

According to www.IMDb.com people have rated this movie 6.0 stars out of 10. Me? I would give it more than that. My rating: definitely an 8 or 9 out of 10. It 's taken me a while to get around to watching this movie. I didn't expect it to be one of the best movies I've seen but of course I was wrong. The plot the special effects.. everything was amazing. It's a movie I could watch over and over and not just because the sexy Ryan Reynolds is the main character but because of how well this movie was put together. For being 2 hours long this movie went by really quick, the only downfall was that it seemed a little rushed and there really wasn't much to him learning the ropes of being a Green Lantern. This is understandable, seeing as how you can only throw so much into two hours. Every actor in this movie blew my mind, it was incredible. I'm not a huge fan of Blake Lively.. but she was great in this movie. I have never found her to be a great actress especially in her role as Serena in Gossip Girl. Lively really stepped up her role in this film, her boss woman attitude is a side she hasn't really shown in her acting career but she somehow pulled it off. Now what really amazed me was Parallax, the whole evil nemesis planning to extinct the whole green lantern corps. Parallax is one of the most bad ass villains I have seen in a movie by far. Kudos to the special effects crew.
Over all I would recommend this movie to everyone. It's worth the time to sit and watch.
Until next time..

Welcome!

Hello!
Welcome to my lovely little blog. Let's just get started with the fact that I am from a city in Ontario with about 250,000 people and I find myself with nothing to do 95% of the time. That's where this little blog of mine came from.. pure boredom. I figured I might as well spend my time writing comments and reviews about books I read and movies I watch since that's what takes up all my free time. Please feel free to comment on whatever you like with whatever opinion your head seems to come up with. I love a little debate here and there so if you're the debating kind go right ahead. Any who.. Let's get this started. My first post will be The Green Lantern (2011 version of course). My posts are more than likely going to be randomized. I love almost every genre of movie there is. When it comes to books.. I'm a typical sci-fi or just a sucker for the silly teen directed novels. You'll see what I mean once I get into reviewing some of the ones I've read.

Alright, well let's get to it!
